How the framework will be used

This competency framework is designed as a guide for effective performance at Sheffield Homes. It shows the common behaviours expected from employees at different levels of the organisation. It is by no means exhaustive and should be used as a guide to behaviours rather than an absolute prescription for how people should behave. For example, although the framework is split into levels, some roles may require behaviours from different levels of the framework and it should therefore be used flexibly where required.

This year, Appraisals and One-to-One Supervision meetings will have a new focus. As well as discussing work tasks and objectives, you'll be asked to talk about the behaviours, or competencies, that are important to your role. You will be asked to reflect on how you go about your work, such as how you interact with colleagues and customers, as well as what you achieve. You'll have the opportunity to have an open and honest conversation about the behaviours that link to our values.

We recognise that the framework is new to everyone, so we're introducing discussion around the behaviours gradually. To support you, we've revised our Appraisal and One-to-One Supervision Meeting Guidance Forms, with the help of a number of Managers across Sheffield Homes, so that they're easier to use and are linked to the FOCUS competencies. This section contains the revised forms that you will need to prepare for an Appraisal, as well as guidance to support for Managers in how to conduct One-to-One Supervision meetings.

Appraisal

The Performance Appraisal Discussion is an opportunity to review achievements over the last year, and agree objectives for the next twelve months. There should be no surprises in an Appraisal - this is a positive opportunity to look at how things have gone and to talk about how you might see your role developing. This section contains the Appraiser's Guidance (including the Appraisal Form), for those responsible for conducting Appraisals, as well as Appraisee's Guidance for everyone taking part in an Appraisal. Taking time to read the guidance notes and prepare for this discussion will help you get the most out of this.

One-to-One Supervision

Regular, productive one-to-one's are an important part of the Performance Appraisal Scheme - designed to ensure employees are getting the support and guidance they need. This section includes guidance notes and a one-to-one meeting template to help ensure all Managers across Sheffield Homes are carrying out consistent, productive supervision meetings.
