Introducing…the FOCUS Awards!

This year we’re starting our new FOCUS Awards, which aim to recognise people within Sheffield Homes who have delivered exceptional service and gone out of their way to show how our values can positively affect the way we work.

Throughout the year we’ll name people who have really lived the FOCUS values - and recognise those whose hard work and dedication has given us something to shout about. Each person will be nominated by colleagues who have seen the impact their work has had, and who tells us the story about the work and the person involved.

We’ll judge the nominations according to standardised criteria, and celebrate those we think live our values the best.

The FOCUS Awards replace the current STAR Awards, so nominations will open soon…

What the FOCUS Awards are about

To win a FOCUS Award, you’ll need to have demonstrated one of our FOCUS values in an outstanding piece of work during which you’ve overcome a problem to deliver great service to customers, or great support to colleagues. So what kind of behaviours will be recognised? Check some previous winners of Awards to see what they did that was so outstanding, and look at our competency framework to see the kind of work and actions we’re looking for.

Broadly, you’ll need to demonstrate a particular value in your work. But the work itself also has to be special: the kind of work that customers and colleagues appreciate and that shows delivery of great service is your top priority.

Our values, and the kind of behaviour they inspire, are:

FAIR

Being fair means being considerate of the circumstances of a situation, and using good judgement to act appropriately and make the right decisions. It means delivering the best possible service for each person on an individual basis and giving people the respect they deserve.

OPEN

Openness is about being honest and approachable, receptive to new ideas and willing to share your own ideas with clarity and sincerity. It means fostering a sense of community and building strong, honest relationships. Being open also means understanding what can be changed, and where things need improving.

COMMITTED

Commitment to our customers, to our vision and to delivering the best service we can. Our commitment can be seen through the passion we have for delivering results. Having pride in, and ownership of our work will ensure action and excellent service are delivered.

UNDERSTANDING

Learning about, and empathising with our customers involves listening to them, and understanding means making sure that we know the problems they face inside out. All members of our team work for the benefit of our customers, and so we should all strive to appreciate the different circumstances our customers face, and the issues they are dealing with.

SUPPORTIVE

Being supportive means creating an atmosphere of trust and honesty so that the relationships we build, are strong and effective. If we are supportive, we will provide customers and our colleagues with what they need, using the resources we have available such as our expertise, our time, our co-operation.
